PMF Ambassadors

What is the PMF Ambassadors Program?

The PMF Ambassadors Program is an active volunteer network of current PMFs and PMF Alumni who support PMF recruitment and outreach activities. Those who express interest and are selected as ambassadors are placed on a roster ahead of the annual application cycle and remain on that roster for approximately one year. The PMF Program Office works closely with ambassadors and draws on this roster to match them with relevant opportunities to support PMF recruitment/outreach. These opportunities may include participating in career fairs/information sessions, speaking on career panels, supporting Handshake efforts, or serving as mentors/guides for prospective applicants. Ambassadors are also provided with resources and training from the PMF Program Office in case they would like to conduct their own outreach activities.

Why PMF Ambassadors?

The mission of the PMF Program is to recruit and develop the next generation of Federal Government leaders from all segments of society. OPM continues to engage in robust recruitment and outreach efforts to increase awareness about the PMF Program, particularly among underrepresented groups. Recruitment and outreach efforts are guided primarily by the following goals: 1) Recruiting qualified candidates to meet agency needs, and 2) Recruiting for maximum representation to draw in PMF Program applicants from the broad diversity of the United States. By harnessing the diversity of those who volunteer as PMF Ambassadors, the PMF Program is better able to meet these goals. The PMF opportunity comes to life when Fellows and Alumni share their unique stories and experiences with prospective applicants, helping inspire them to answer the call to public service by applying to the PMF Program. The PMF Ambassadors Program is a critical tool for raising awareness about the PMF opportunity among individuals with diverse social, cultural, and academic backgrounds in order to meet the challenges facing the Federal Government and deliver for the American people.

How to Become a PMF Ambassador

Every year, the PMF Program Office sends out a call for PMF Ambassadors, soliciting volunteers from the PMF community. Those who are interested in volunteering are asked to complete a questionnaire which helps us match ambassadors with relevant opportunities. In order to become a PMF Ambassador, an individual must be a current Fellow or a PMF Alumnus/Alumna (i.e., someone who has successfully completed the program), and should have a clear interest in supporting PMF recruitment/outreach. At this time, the program is open only to PMFs and PMF Alumni who are current Federal employees.

While the PMF Program Office sends out an annual call for volunteers, interested individuals may express interest at any time by emailing pmf@opm.gov and referencing “PMF Ambassadors” in the subject line. Additionally, interested ambassadors will be asked to provide their consent to be listed in the PMF Ambassadors Directory (see below for more information).

Please note that current PMFs can earn up to 16 training and developmental hours toward fellowship requirements for PMF Ambassador-related activities. These activities may help develop important competencies such as Strategic Thinking, Vision, Supporting Diversity, Creativity and Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Partnering, among others. Any PMF Ambassador-related activity carried out during work hours must be approved by a Fellow’s supervisor and work done outside of work hours must be done on a voluntary basis and on an individual’s personal time. Ambassadors participate in their personal capacity as Fellows/PMF Alumni and do not represent OPM or their respective agencies.

PMF Ambassadors Directory

The below Excel spreadsheet contains a directory of 2023 PMF Ambassadors. This spreadsheet can be accessed by prospective applicants, academic institutions, and organizations to connect directly with current Fellows and PMF Alumni who are currently volunteering as PMF Ambassadors. Ambassadors can be contacted for informational interviews, email exchanges, information sessions, or other opportunities meant to raise awareness about the PMF Program.

The directory includes the following information for PMF Ambassadors who provided us their consent to be listed: Name, Email, Advanced Degree Background, Advanced Degree Alma Mater, Undergraduate Degree Alma Mater, PMF Class Year, Agency/Sub-Agency, Current Location/Duty Station. Please note that the individuals here are volunteers and are sharing in their personal capacity as Fellows/PMF Alumni, and not on behalf of their respective agencies. The directory is subject to change and ambassadors may opt-out at any time.

Current ambassadors who need to update their contact information should send an email to pmf@opm.gov and reference “PMF Ambassadors” in the subject line.

Resources

A number of valuable outreach tools and resources can be found on the Become a PMF/Resources and Academia/Resources pages.

Additionally, A “PMF Ambassadors Toolkit” and training are separately provided to those who express interest and are selected as PMF Ambassadors.
