Holland Gormley: 2016 PMF

Holland Gormley is a public affairs specialist with the U.S. Copyright Office at the Library of Congress. Her portfolio includes managing education and outreach to creative communities. Holland’s love for the arts stretches back to childhood. Her family is made up of artists and makers and she saw firsthand the challenges that come with a career in a creative field. “I always knew that I wanted my work to support artists,” Holland shared. “Artists are central to the creation of our communal culture and history. Supporting artists means supporting the freedom of expression, and what’s more important than that? I can honestly say I love my job and I feel so grateful to the Presidential Management Fellows Program for helping me to get where I am today.”

Holland knew she wanted to work in the arts at the Federal level after grad school. In 2016 she applied to the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program to continue to hone her skills and Federal experience. She credits the mentors she gained through placements at the Department of Labor/Women’s Bureau and the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs/Cultural Diplomacy Division with giving her the confidence to tackle today’s toughest communication challenges. “I simply would not be where I am today without the advice and encouragement of my mentors. They have become lifelong friends.” said Holland. “It is my hope that I will be able to give back in the same way, and mentor others in their careers. There truly is a place, and a real need, for people from all backgrounds in the Federal Government. I'd recommend the PMF Program to any Federal agency looking for driven and curious employees, and to any recent graduates that love learning and working as a team to solve our country’s challenges."
